People in Indonesia are often fooled by the appearance of this snake, which is intimidating when surprised or cornered.

Its shape is equally large, although the maximum length does not reach 6 meters. Then, the skin pattern also looks similar.

It was the king rat snake (Ptyas carinata) which has a maximum size of up to 4 meters. People in Indonesia call it King Korros snake.

Still shorter than the maximum size of the king cobra snake (Ophiophagus hannah), but in general, these two snakes (in adulthood) have a similar appearance.

However, although this snake is not a venomous snake, it is immune to venom from venomous snakes. Even venomous snakes such as the king cobra and cobra, their venom is ineffective against the king rat snake.

That is also why this snake is called the king of non-venomous snakes. Its fangs are aglypha or uniform teeth that do not have a venom channel.

The characteristic of this snake in terms of self-defense is that it inflates its jaws. Then, it forms an "S"-like neck curve before attacking.

Another unique thing, this snake also emits a pungent odor like the smell of onions, to repel natural predators, such as mongoose and other snakes.
